PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING
The PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING provides support to our local Home Builders Association. They are very involved in various activities and functions that support the community financially through time and donations. These functions are held throughout the year. At Christmas time we financially support a family in need that has had unexpected expenses that has made a hardship to their family through medical bills or loss of a family member. Listed below are a few other projects in which we serve the community. All HBA women members and spouses of members are encouraged to join the PWB. We’d love to have you!
Festival of Trees
Every November the Festival of Trees raises money for local charities. The council is the longest running organization to be a part of this event. The PWB purchases the tree and decorations and all council members are encouraged to join together to decorate the tree at the Ho-Chunk Centre. The tree, along with many others, is on display and auctioned off in November and all the proceeds go toward the charity of choice for that year. The Council has been involved in this event since it first began.

Silent Auction
The Silent Auction is held each year in conjunction with the annual Home Builders Association Awards Banquet. Each year in November the Home Builders Association’s awards banquet recognizes outstanding members throughout the year. The PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING members along with HBA members donate items to this auction. All proceeds from the auction go toward our scholarship program for area high school seniors. This past year nine scholarships were given to students from various schools. Download a scholarship application here.
Members of the Project Home Committee
The PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING members that serve on the project home committee help in the decision making process of all areas of construction of the home. This committee also chooses the colors for siding, shingles, carpeting, flooring, cabinets and countertops. When the home is complete, an open house is held with PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING members hosting this event which showcases to the community this beautiful home. Wondering what Project Home is? Women’s Build Week
The Professional Women in Building took part in the National Blitz week that is held in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build Week. The PWB came out to help put the floor joists and decking materials on in preparation of the Blitz Build.
Home Show
Siouxland Home Show Hospitality Room
In March of every year, the Home Builders Association hosts the Siouxland home show . The PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING host a hospitality lounge for all exhibitors. This is a place for them to relax, have refreshments and cookies. Any donations made to the Exhibitor Lounge during the show is donated the the scholarship program.
Fun Events
We have a May couple’s event, spouses are invited and we have a fun evening with a meal and refreshments and usually a fun game or two. Our March and April months are typically fun activities. We’ve had an outdoor barbecue, a make and take flower potting evening, game night, and yoga instruction, to name a few.
Canvas & Cocktails
The PWB met at the Pierce Mansion in Sioux City for a March meeting. It was a fun evening to explore this beautiful, historic home.
